The story of our restaurant, now a brand, begins like the best movies: with a chance encounter, a brilliant idea, and a dash of madness. Picture a group of friends gathering in a city corner, inspired by the spirit of Stendhal, the renowned French author and keen observer of life and love. Just like him, we wanted to celebrate the enchantment of urban life, with a touch of irony and lightness.

A true-blue Milanese restaurant, Stendhal opened in Brera in 1988, thanks to Italo Manca, one of the last Milanese dandies. Retro atmospheres, literary tributes, and classic dishes: from the start, our place stood out as a meeting point for those who love authentic Milan, the Milan of historic cafés and cultural salons. In the 2000s, the Forti family took over the business, first with Enrico and later with Marcello, who has carried on the tradition started by his father with passion and innovation.

Marcello Forti is a visionary who managed to preserve the original charm of Stendhal Milano while adding a contemporary touch. He’s the one who decided to take a gamble on Rome, bringing a format that’s “an ode to Milanese culture, refreshed from the 80s and 90s vibes.” That’s how we became a point of reference not only for the people of Milan but for anyone seeking an experience that blends a glorious past with a vibrant, cosmopolitan present.
